You should uninstall any older versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader before installing Reader v6. The v6 installation does NOT remove earlier versions of the reader software nor are you given any option to uninstall then during the v6 setup.

The two tools provide different functions. A firewall is designed to prevent intrusion into your computer by hackers, worms, and other threats that connect to your computer through your Internet connection.
A spyware removal tool removes spyware that you have installed on your computer. Spyware is usually bundled with other "free" software and is installed when the "free" program is installed.

The need for a firewall depends on how you are connected to your DSL line. If you are connected through a DSL/Cable Router, then you already have a firewall. If your computer is connected to your DSL line directly through a cable modem (without a router), then you should activate the firewall that is included in Windows XP. With other versions of Windows, see the Zone Alarm answer on the Security page.
I would also recommend installing Ad-aware and using it to scan your computer for spyware from time to time.

After downloading Ad-aware, double-click the aaw6.exe file to install it.

Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are actually the same type program. MSN Messenger was meant for non-Windows XP computers (Windows 98, Me, 2000, etc.). Windows Messenger is the one that is built into Windows XP. They are "instant messaging" programs like AOL's.

DLL (dynamic link library) files are files that provide "functions" to Windows. They are part of a program, but are provided as separate files, because the function that they provide may be used by multiple different programs. In order for everything to work correctly, the DLL has to be the correct version for the program calling the function (or at least support the function as expected by the program) and the correct version for the version of Windows you are using. DLL files also have to be "registered" with the system. Sometimes simply replacing the files works OK. But a lot of times, you'll get the wrong version of the file. The best way to fix a problem of a missing DLL is to reinstall the program that put the file there in the first place.

AS LONG AS NO OTHER PROGRAMS ARE OPEN AND RUNNING... Any file you find that has the extension (last three letters) of .tmp can be deleted - no questions asked. Sometimes Windows creates temp files to back up open documents and other data files. Those temp files are generated by Windows and are usually deleted automatically when no longer needed... sometimes not. Either way, get rid of 'em. (This procedure is for more advanced users. If unsure of what you are doing, don't!)

Can anyone recommend easy to use, inexpensive software for editing music files. I wish to music files delete portions of several files and them merge the edited portions into a new file?
Assuming your computer is running Windows XP (home or pro), has a processor that's at least 1.0 GHz speed, has at least 512 mb memory, and has at least 10 GB free on its hard drive -- We recommend a great little program called Total Recorder Professional Edition, available for download and sale at http/www.highcriteria.com It costs $35.95.

Doing a clean removal of a stubborn program.
Not able to remove or uninstall an application in Windows XP using either the Uninstall option or the Add/Remove Programs tool? Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.
Here's how:
You may now reinstall the application.
